The Needle Drop: 01-03-09

This week, some energetic garage and the debut of a pop rock entourage.

It's our first show of the new year, and we're stepping into 2009 with some new bands and upcoming releases.

First up, we've got the debut EP, Rotten Apples, from Voxhaul Broadcast. And even though this is the beginning of the year, it's going to be hard to forget these tracks before 2010 rolls around. This debut makes Voxhaul Broadcast a real up-and-comer.

We've also got music from hands whose new albums aren't even out yet: Animal Collective, Black Lips.

And we're cleaning up shop with a full nelson of garage rock from the band Cheap Time. Their first LP is really something to behold. The LP's harsh recording quality is the perfect medium for their pop-inspired guitar riffs, floor tom romps, and ballsy vocal delivery.

It's a podcast that's with the times.
