Repetition doesn't get enough credit. It gets a bad rap. Repetition is consistency, and repetition can be hypnotic, too.That's the "conceptual direction" of Chicago's Cave. Their music is loaded with sonic subtleties. Slow builds and faint changes make it easy to get lost in the music. Attentive listeners will eat up every slight detail while others will simply get into the grove of it.
It's music that's indebted to krautrock minimalists like Kraftwerk and Neu!, while keeping things contemporary with a sound close to Holy Fuck or Oneida. Cave's latest LP is Psychic Summer; it's out on Important Records; and here's a track from it:
